It was good to be back home and playing at the Rec to host Nelson.  Earlier on in the season we drew against Nelson away so we were expecting a good game. 

Oakdale won the toss and started the game, the ball was passed to Thomas Gregory who quickly found the try line, 1-0.  Nelson advanced into the hosts half, a tackle into touch by Dafydd Price gave possession to Oakdale.  William Davey had an excellent run well into the visitor’s half, he was caught and a knock on gave Nelson the put in at the scrum.  Dale were able to claim possession back and saw James Williams score the try, 2-0.

Nelson responded with a quick try, 2-1. The Dale restarted, Jordan Way pushed through the defence, James Williams was in support and passed out to Oliver Cooke on the wing, he side stepped the defender to reach the try line, 3-1.

A knock on gave the ball to the Dale, the Nelson defence took Gabriel into touch allowing them to advance to the try line.  The Dale defence were holding them there, a loose ball was scooped up and passed to William Davey, he used his pace to leave the defence and steam to the try line to score, 4-1.

Nelson persisted and found a gap in the Dale defence to score, 4-2.  From the restart great passing saw the Dale advance to the try line, the Nelson defence were putting in the tackles, but the Dale got back up and continued the pressure until Thomas Gregory broke through to score, 5-2.

Nelson started the second half, Gabriel Jones started driving the player backwards, Thomas came in for the helping hand to use the touch line.  Oliver passed the ball out to James Williams, he passed to William Davey to score, 6-2.  The hosts soon claimed the ball by again using the touch line, Hudson Mathias made some good ground before passing to William Davey to claim his hat trick, 7-2

Hudson Mathias stole the ball from the restart, the Dale advanced forward and Thomas Gregory pounced over to claimed his hat trick, 8-2.

Oakdale continued to control the game, Logan Taylor made a tackle on someone twice his size and the hosts were able to steal the ball, we saw some excellent passing back and fore between Gabriel and Zac, the ball was eventually passed to James Williams to cross the try line. 9-2.

Gabriel Jones put in a tackle causing Nelson to drop the ball, Thomas Gregory picked up the ball and ran to the try line to score, 10-2.

Nelson took the ball within meters of the try line, the Dale defence were holding strong resulting in turn over ball, Zac Tucker took the ball, a dummy allowed him to run through a gap in the defence, and run the length of the pitch to score, 11-2.

Once again the Dale were able win the ball from strong defending.  The teamwork was evident with passing across the pitch as the hosts advanced up the field before Thomas crossed the whitewash, 12-2.

Nelson were not giving up and finished the game with a try to cheers of delight from the supporters, 12-3.

An excellent game of rugby, a good all round performance from the boys showing good signs of development!

The parents thought all players gave 100% and award the whole team man of the match – well deserved!
