Oakdale U8's hold on for victory

Oakdale Under 8's travelled the short distance to Bedwas to play on the 4G surface they must have drawn inspiration from the previous days six nations matches as they put on fantastic display of running rugby to show the Wales senior team how to do it. Despite the biting cold the boys were keen to get on with the game and the delayed kick off did not affect their concentration.

First Quarter

Oakdale got the game of to a bang as Jacob James quickly made a break to put Bedwas immediately on the back foot, he offloaded to Gethin Tudball in the tackle who went over for the first try.

Oakdale were soon on the scoreboard again as Gethin Tudbulll dived on a lose ball to secure possession he passed to Joseph Bonnici who took the ball forward to pass to Jacob James, who gave a try scoring pass to Brayley Williams.

With the score at 2-0, Bedwas got a try a back.

Charlie Williams then got his hands on the ball and made a run deep into Bedwas half to pass to Gethin Tudbull who made the assist for Joe Lewis to go over for Oakdales third try.

Bedwas then went on the attavk put some good defence by Oakdale especially by Brayley Williams and Iestyn Dalton who was makinhg his debut prevented Bedwas from scoring.

After a turn over Iestyn Dalton took the ball forward to pass to Jacob James who set up Gethin Tudbull for his second try of the match.

Again Oakdale were solid in defence and refused to let Bedwas in for a try and the pressure paid off as they turned the ball over, which saw Gethin Tudbull make a break who put a pass out wide to Joe Lewis who grabbed the ball from the air to go over in the corner for his second try.

The end of the first quarter saw it Bedwas 1 - Oakdale 5

Second Quarter

Straight after the break Oakdale must have still been sucking on their half time oranges as Bedwas caught them napping to make a break to pull a try back straight away.

This only served to wake then up as Rhys Gammage danced his way through and almost go over but a try saving tackle prevented him, however his quick thinking saw him pop a pass to Joe Lewis who as ever was in support to score another try.

Bedwas were the next to go over to make the score 5-3

Oakdale then scored another four tries in this quarter from the dancing feet of Ollie Penny, Joe Lewis (2) and a weaving run from Ioan Herbert saw him grab the last try of the quarter to make the score 10-5

Third quarter

The third quarter saw both teams tighten up their defence with both teams only scoring one try each, Joseph Bonnici going over in the corner, with only one quarter remaining the score was 11-6.

Fourth quarter

Bedwas were looking to get back in the game, and the cold must have finally got to Oakdales hands as Bedwas ran in four tries to make the game close, with Oakdale only scoring one try in this quarter through Ioan Herbert who dodged the Bedwas rushing defence to seal victory for Oakdale.

The final score Bedwas 10 - Oakdale 12.

Well done U8's

Man of the match was Iestyn Dalton who made some fantastic runs, and was always in support and solid in defence - Well done Iestyn.
