U11's short trip to the Hafod

It was a short trip up the Kendon for a meeting with the U11 Rams at Hafodyrynys.  With both games against them postponed last season due to the weather, someone had obviously had a word as the sun was shining making for a good day. We had plenty of time to warm up as the other games were being played and we were raring to go.

From the kick off it was almost straight to a Dale scrum from which Logan passed to Oliver and out to William Davey on the wing who scored over the dead ball line.  Within minutes Thomas Gregory had scored and found the correct line, conversion by Oliver Cooke.  From the restart Oliver kicked the ball deep into The Rams half, Thomas turn of speed saw him scoop up the ball, unfortunately this time he was over the dead ball line, there was definitely confusion over the dead ball line having cones and not the try line. Gabriel Jones took a great interception, The Dale were unable to keep possession, Hafod advance into our half, Thomas Gregory hoofed the ball down the pitch and William Davey was chasing like a hound after a hare, the ball found touch before Will got to it.  The Dale were soon back in possession, the passing was superb feeding the ball to Dafydd who was ready and waiting on the wing, his speed saw him pass the defence to cross the try line.  The Dale were once again in possession, this time Jenson Cook ran through the defenders, the confusion over the try line and dead ball line was still there and it was grounded over the dead ball line.  Thankfully The Rams Team Manager had found some cones and set them out on the try line.  The Rams took the ball, which Thomas was quick to steal, he was on his way to the try line but a hand off gave the hosts the penalty.  We temporarily went to 11 players due to one of the hosts leaving the field of play.  William Davey had another good run, the cones were in place and the shout of now put the ball down from the side lines was making sure there was no confusion, William even had time to check the line before grounding the ball, conversion by Oliver Cooke.  From the restart William was quick to pick up the ball and again was off to the try line, he was brought back as the ball hadn’t gone 10 yards, Hafod chose a scrum but quick feet from the Dale hooker won the ball and we saw Jenson Cook back at the try line to score, conversion by Oliver Cooke.

We were both back up to 12 a side for the second half.  The Dale started with excellent handling skills passing along the width of the field and Jenson Cook once again crossing the white wash, conversion by Oliver Cooke. The Rams were not giving up and were yards from the try line, a turnover ball saw Logan Taylor gain ground however a knock on gave The Rams a scrum from which they scored their first converted try of the morning.   The Dale responded with William Davey weaving his way through the defence to score, conversion by Oliver Cooke.  Play was continuing in the hosts half, this time it was Hudson who took the ball from the ground and ploughed through to the try line, conversion by Oliver Cooke. Play continued and Hafod had advanced into our half, Oliver’s kick was chased down by Will Davey but he couldn’t get there before it bounced over the dead ball line.  Hafod kicked the ball straight into the arms of Jenson Cook, who passed out to Thomas Gregory to score.  Logan Taylor had a lovely pick up, the Rams wasn’t expecting this and before they realised he was on his way and crossing the try line, Logan also made the conversion to bring the game to a close.
