Oakdale v Senghenydd

After the summer break the boys and girls turned up with renewed enthusiam for the forthcoming season eager to play their first matches modelling their new kit.  Despite the gloomy weather the watching crowd were treated to some fast pace end to end rugby from both sides.

It was not long before the match had its first try after a break from Gethin Tudball took Oakdale deep into Senghenydd's half after a couple of passes saw Joe Lewis weave his way into the corner for the opening try.

Oakdale were quick on the attack again with Pacey Jayne breaking the Senghenydd line and going over for a second try.

Senghenydd were far from down and quickly responded with a try of their own and continued to pressure Oakdale and it was only some good defending from Oakdale and imparticular Jacob James which kept Senghenyyd from crossing the line.  The pressure finally paid off and Oakdale's resolute defence finally buckled and Senghenydd scored their second try of the match.

Oakdale rallied themselves and some good breaks by Gethin Tudbull and Joe Lewis almost made it three tries to Oakdale but Senghenydd's well organised defence saw the teams end the half two tries a piece and a well deserved rest for the teams.

If the watching crowd thought that was exciting they were in for a real treat as the second half was to produce even more great rugby and tries, Oakdale changed their line up with a whole new team coming on including debutant Joseph Bonnici, and the introduction of fresh legs seemed to pay off as Tyler Symmons went through to score Oakdales third try.

However, Senghenydd refused to give up and some neat passing saw them quickly score a thrid try to level the match.  This seemed to give them confidence and they were on the attack again and were rewarded with another try to make it 4 tries to 3.

Oakdale restarted the game and caught Senghenyyd napping with Ollie Penny dancing his way through the Senghenydd defence to level the scores at 4 all.

The players and crowd were unable to catch their breath as Senghenydd were quickly on the break to score a try making it 4 tries to 5.

Oakdale needed to respond quickly as time was running out and the ball was passed out to Joshua Way in midfield who evaded the Senghenydd tacklers to even the score at 5 all.

The match was back and for with both teams looking to get the next try and to seal their opening victory, Senghenydd were in possession and a lovely pass saw them going over for their sixth try.

With time ticking on Oakdale needed to get a try to get a draw wiith both sets of players tiring Oakdale were on the attack and this time Roman Taylor was in possession and was able to find a gap in the Senghenydd defence to score the vital equalising try.

The match ended 6 tries a piece with both team giving 100% and the players can be proud of their efforts.
