The U11’s had a midweek fixture against Newbridge at the Welfare under the floodlights. The evening fixture seemed popular with lots of parents and grandparents in attendance, they were well rewarded.
Newbridge opened the game with a try within the first few minutes, we saw possession going back and forth between the teams before the Dale settled down and some good passing moved the Dale down the field resulting in Thomas Gregory open the scoring. The Dale kept the pressure on, Hudson Mathias won the ball from the ruck, he sliced through defenders before passing to Thomas Gregory to score. From the restart Oliver hoofed the ball down the pitch, it was looking like it may bounce into touch but Gabriel Jones was speeding down the touch line to scoop up the ball and land over the try line. The Dale were playing good rugby, Jordan Way pressurised in the ruck allowing Logan Taylor to claim the ball, he had a break and passed to Thomas who was speeding down the field with Gabriel Jones in support, he made the pass allowing Gabriel to cross the whitewash. The boys were definitely on the attack tonight moving with ball in hand, offloading to avoid contact and using the width of the pitch, this was paying dividends and on this occasion for Gabriel Jones who went over for his hat trick just before the half time whistle.
The second half started in the same vein as the first, Oliver Cooke had a good break before passing to Dafydd Price in support to finish the move and score the try. The next try came from a lineout, Hudson caught the ball it was passed along the pitch and out to Zac Tucker who dodged the defence and crossed the line. It wasn’t long before the Dale were back at the try line and this time it was Harvey Lyons scoring his first try for the Dale. Play continued in the hosts half with a weaving run from Zac Tucker to claim the points. The attacking play from the Dale was unstoppable, Jordan Way claimed the ball from the ruck and pounced over the try line. A knock on gave the Dale the put in at the scrum, we saw Zac Tucker go on a weaving run to score his hat trick. The Dale were not going to let their defence be breached this half and to finish the game we saw William Davey use his pace to reach the corner flag and score.
Great effort by all the team tonight, well done boys.
