Double Header on Armistice Day

St Peters

With a minute silence between players and supporters it was a great game of rugby in some cold and muddy conditions. With a good turn out of players Oakdale were able to field 2 different teams in each half enabling them to go all guns blazing and they were at it from the go with Gethin and Rhys getting some early tries on the board. However St Peters refused to give in and cam back into it with a couple of nicely worked tries. With the game finely balanced up stepped Rhys who scored his second of the half and was in the mood looking for more to add to his tally in which he has found a rich vein of form of late. Bouyed by the efforts of his team, up stepped Roman to add another 2 tries which was quickly followed by Charlie opening up a 6-2 lead. As the half was ending St Peters got themselves back in it with 2 late tries making it an entertaining half.

The second half followed much like the first with Pacey, Ollie and Jabob getting on the scoreboard before Ollie completed a hat trick of tries to move to 11-7 lead. With St Peters looking for tired legs they were uanable to get past some good defensive work by William, Joseph and Brayley. As the minutes ticked on St Peters were rewarded with 2 more late tries making the score a respectable 11-9 to Oakdale.

Risca

Unlike the first game, this proved to be a very tight game in which no many tries were score as both teams were very evenly matched. With some excellant tagging by Ruben and some good communication by the boys they were able to stop some free flowing rugby by Risca who were looking for the first try of the game. However our very own Gethin 'taginator' Tudball raced down the line to open the scoring with a very well taken try. Although Risca got back into in, Gethin wasnt finished as he added a further 2 tries to his tally with some excellent passing from Roman and Joe to set up the finish. There were also some notable runs from the elusive Roman who had some lovely footwork and was very unlucky on a couple of occasions not to cross.

With the game in the balance Oakdale thought they had won the game with an excellant try by Ollie followed by Will who also showed great pace down the wing. However with a late flurry by Risca they clawed back into it with the scores level at 5-5. With the last play of the game Risca pounced on some shell shocked players as Oakdale were slow to get out of their defensive blocks allowing Risca to snacth the win, making it 6-5 Risca.

With so many stand out performances it was hard for the coaches to pick a 'man of the week' but an excellent defensive effort from Roman was enough to earn his award. Well done Roman!

Also a shout out to our flying winger Joe who injured his leg during the game as his explosive pace was too much for his muscles. Hope to see you at the next game!
