Over £3000 Raised Remembering Dean & Allan

What started out as a casual pint and a chat in the club back last year quickly turned into a phenomenal  charity fundraising effort where three past players rallied their old team mates to raise over £2500 for two noble charities. Having recently lost two good friends, Mark Davies, Neil Profit and Martyn Canniff decided that they had to do something to remember former youth team player Dean Price and former Leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, Allan Pritchard.

Calls were made, emails were sent and a Facebook page was set up to let everyone know that the boots were being dusted off for one more time when the lads challenged the Oakdale First Team to a match. Training sessions were held to make sure that everyone was in prime physical condition ready for the day of the match and what a day it was. A great crowd turned out to watch the past masters teach the young bucks a thing or two and after an avalanche of pints shared between both sides the seniors won the day not only on the field but back at the clubhouse also.

On Saturday 19th April, before the Italy game, representatives from St Davids Hospice and Ty Hafan were in attendance to accept a cheque each for £1250.00 from Mark, Neil and Martyn and also the families of Dean and Alan. Oakdale Rugby Club were also able to contribute to the day by presenting each charity with two more cheques for £300.00 each from the Christopher Harden Memorial Fund meaning that over £3000.00 was given to both charities on the day. Hopefully this won’t be the last time as everyone enjoyed themselves so much that plans are already under way to make it annual event. A big thank you and an even bigger well done to everyone involved in raising so much money for two great causes.
