U11's visit the Mini Brewers

A full morning of rugby was held at Rhymney this morning, culminating with the U11’s.  The hosts won the toss and started the game.  Hudson Mathias took the Dale deep into the Rhymney half, the hosts took the ball from the ruck, passed to a winger who was too quick for our defence, a converted try by Rhymney opened the scoring. The Dale were keen to get some scores on the board, two quick tries by Thomas Gregory were both made by good runs from Zac Tucker and James Williams.  Rhymney scored a converted try followed by an excellent phase of play by the Dale to see Ethan Walker plough through the defence to score, the try was converted by Oliver Cooke.  Hudson Mathias picked up the ball from the ruck, he passed to Will Davey who scored in the corner, try converted by Oliver Cooke.  The Dale were determined to maintain the lead at half time and kept the pressure on, a turnover saw Thomas Gregory score followed by an excellent effort by Hudson Mathias who was centimetres short of the try line.

Half Time – Rhymney 21 – Oakdale 29

Dale restarted the second half in the manner they finished the first.  Gabriel Jones made ground before passing to Dafydd Price, he was taken to ground, good hands by Evan Evans fed the ball out.  Rhymney gained possession and crossed the try line, the ball was dropped and not grounded, Thomas was quick to pick up and pass to Dafydd Price, he was racing down the field before Rhymney had realised they hadn’t scored, try as they might they couldn’t catch him, try converted by Oliver Cooke.  Rhymney had a line out deep in the Dale half, the Dale pressure resulted in a loose ball at the ruck which Thomas Gregory collected and scored.  From the restart Zac Tucker quickly put the Rhymney defence under pressure, the ball was dropped and again Thomas was there to score, try was converted by Oliver Cooke.  The Dale took their foot off the gas and we saw Rhymney run in 4 quick tries taking them within 2 points of the lead with minutes to go.  The boys showed great determination and teamwork maintaining the pressure, the ball went through a few phases before finding Will Davey ready and waiting on the wing, he skirted around 3 defenders to cross the whitewash, conversion by Oliver Cooke.
